TALLINN - Winds blowing up to 25 meters per second in gusts are forecast to bring waves up to 4.5 meters high to the Baltic Sea on Monday and on the night between Monday and Tuesday, Estonia's national weather service said Monday morning.
In the Gulf of Finland, northwest winds are forecast to blow at speeds of 12 to 17 meters per second and up to 25 meters per second is gusts before noon, then easing to 10 to 15 meters per second, and 22 meters per second in gusts. In the evening and during the night wind speeds are forecast to slow down to 8 to 11 meters per second, reaching up to 15 meters per second in gusts.
Wave heights are forecast to reach 2.5 to 4.5 meters during the day and one to 2.5 meters during the night.
During the night between Sunday and Monday, strong winds caused power outages across Estonia and kept professional and volunteer rescuers busy as in many places trees and large branches of trees had fallen onto roads and overhead power lines.
