Estonia among countries with lowest risk of money laundering

TALLINN – According to the Basel Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Index, Estonia is among world countries with the lowest risk of money laundering and terrorism financing.

The Basel AML Index is an annual ranking assessing the risk of countries regarding money laundering and terrorism financing. It focuses on anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing frameworks and other related factors such as financial and public transparency and judicial strength.

Estonia's ranking compared to the year before remained unchanged at 3rd place with 3.83 points, preceded by Lithuania with 3.67 points and Finland with 3.04 points.

Iran registered the highest index, 8.6 points, followed by Afghanistan with 8.38 points and Guinea-Bissau with 8.35 points.

The Index is compiled by Basel Institute on Governance, which is associated with the University of Basel. The Index gives an assessment of 146 countries.
